چکیده

This paper presents a new atomic commitment protocol enhanced three phase commit E PC that always allows a quorum in the system to make progress Previously suggested quorum based protocols e g the quorum based three phase commit PC Ske allow a quorum to make progress in case of one failure If failures cascade however and the quorum in the system is lost i e at a given time no quorum component exists a quorum can later become connected and still remain blocked With our protocol a connected quorum never blocks E PC is based on the quorum based PC Ske and it does not require more time or communication than PC We describe how this protocol can be exploited in a replicated database setting making the database always available to a majority of the sites

Resilience-Based Framework for Distributed Generation Planning in Distribution Networks

Events with low probability and high impact, which annually cause high damages, seriously threaten the health of the distribution networks. Hence, more attention to the issue of enhancing network resilience and continuity of power supply, feels more than ever, all over the world. In modern distribution networks, because of the increasing presence of distributed generation resources, an alternat...

Analysis of structural characteristics of social capital for increasing the resilience of social- ecological systems (Case study: Kalateh Rudbar, Semnan province)

Researchers studying on adaptation and resilience of systems mainly seek to reduce the vulnerability of extremely complex social-ecological systems against potential changes. Since major portion of natural resources of Iran is interrelated with various users and social groups. Present study focused upon the necessity of studying structural characteristics of social capital of rangeland users in...

Improving Query Processing Performance in Large Distributed Database Management Systems

The dream of computing power as readily available as the electricity in a wall socket is coming closer to reality with the arrival of grid and cloud computing. At the same time, databases grow to sizes beyond what can be efficiently managed by single server systems. There is a need for efficient distributed database management systems (DBMSs). Current distributed DBMSs are not built to scale to...

Increasing the Resilience of Atomic Commit , at No Additional

This paper presents a new atomic commitment protocol, Enhanced Three Phase Commit (E3PC), that always allows a quorum in the system to make progress. Previously suggested quorum-based protocols (e.g. the quorum-based Three Phase Commit (3PC) Ske82]) allow a quorum to make progress in case of one failure. If failures cascade, however, and the quorum in the system is \lost" (i.e. at a given time ...

Efficient Commit Processing in High-Availability Main-Memory Databases

Database systems are currently being used as backbone to thousands of applications. Some of these have very high demands for high availability and fast real-time responses. Examples include telecommunication systems, trading systems, online gaming and sensor networks. Disk-based databases are too slow to facilitate the short response time requirements of these types of systems. Main-memory data...
